Define your beliefs thru self-reflection
Self-reflection is a powerful tool to put yourself at an imaginary distance and analyze your whole life. Defining your limiting beliefs is about observing yourself and your reactions to certain situations where you are heavily affected by your old beliefs about yourself.
Self-reflection is the time to be aware of what kind of values, beliefs, or instances affect your life and cause you fear and uneasiness.
I shared my story, and I told you that one of my greatest limiting beliefs is that I’m a quitter. This particular limiting belief caused me to make past decisions out of fear and not out of hope.
Can you remember situations in your life where you heavily judged a present moment or a future based on your beliefs brought about by past circumstances?
Understand the root cause/s of your limiting beliefs
Now that we have a clarity of our limiting beliefs, it is now time to get to know more about it. We need to understand what caused us to have these beliefs in the first place.
If you use my experience, I believe that I’m a quitter result from my past action. These are actions that I keep on repeating until I embraced them entirely as part of my identity.
Think of your beliefs and think about where they originated. Is it the result of your habits, wrong decisions, based on other people’s mistakes, or is it baseless and just a thought?
Challenge your self-limiting beliefs
To challenge your beliefs is where the real action starts!
Using my story, I challenge my limiting beliefs by proving to myself that I can stay consistent and inspired towards something that I want.
We can learn from my story that we need a firm decision that will allow us the chance to let go of old beliefs. Some beliefs can be conquered by taking consistent actions.
We need to use our past mistakes to make better decisions now. And we need to taunt our beliefs and tell them, “See, I told you. I can do it,” by proving that we can go against those self-imposed limitations.
It is also worthy to say that we need to adopt the growth mindset if we want to let go of limiting beliefs. And, we should use knowledge and learning to our advantage.
