So, you want to start a blog? I can almost hear the people disguising their frown upon this idea. Blogging is not that popular in my country as of the moment, so they think that I’m probably wasting my time or maybe for them, blogging is not a real business or job. Have you experienced this? Or you are in this article because you consider blogging yet you procrastinate on starting?
Here are the nine reasons why you should blog and three wrong expectations about blogging:
Table of Contents
Starting a blog is your ideal type of business
Long gone are the days where starting a business is limited to having a physical shop to sell goods. Online business is popular nowadays and continuously improving. Yes, blogging is a business too, but unlike the physical shops- you will do everything with your laptop or desktop. You can earn in blogging by doing affiliate marketing, sponsorships, selling digital products, and placing an ad on your website- the possibilities are endless.
If your idea of business involves having a flexible schedule, being your own boss, able to work anywhere with small monetary investment, then you can consider blogging.
If you are serious in blogging and want to make it your business, you need a reliable hosting so your contents can be visible and accessed on the internet. Bluehost is offering a one-year free domain name for 1st year with free SSL included. WordPress is easy to install in Bluehost- it can be done with one click! All this for $3.95/month and with 30-days money-back guarantee.
Make money on the side
If you don’t want to leave your current job or manage your blog as your primary source of income, you can still choose to maintain it as a side hustle. Like what I mentioned in number one, there are different ways to earn money from blogging. To have a money-making blog is an excellent way to help with your finances.
Growing your brand
During these times, people do their purchases online and it is not a new thing that talking about a product on a website is one of the effective ways to market your existing business or products. With the number of searches every day- it will be the business’ edge to make their brand visible online. Use your blog for marketing your products or services to reach a bigger customer base.
Improve technical skills
If you take blogging seriously, you will find a way to learn and understand the different ways to improve your blog. Say that you want your blog to be optimized for search engines and gain traffic, you will push yourself to learn how search engine optimization (SEO) works. You will have to learn how to navigate the back end of your website, how to maintain your website, understand what hosting means and a lot more.
Learning and improving your technical skills is a win-win situation. You can enhance your blog, and you can also offer your skills and services to other businesses because these skills are in demand.
You want to step out of your comfort zone
Not everyone starts a blog for money; some persons start a blog to improve themselves, especially if their reason for starting is to inspire others. Starting a blog to inspire others through your life lessons or experiences mean that you have to be vulnerable.
It is one of my reason why I started The Defined Life in the first place- putting myself, and my story out there is not easy for me because I’m afraid to be vulnerable, to be judged and I’m self-critical. But like me, I want to challenge you to step out of your comfort zone. We will never know if our stories could be helpful for other people.
Starting a blog will help you understand yourself
Blogging about your challenges and what you learned from it will help other people as much as it helps you, and this is not limited to niches like self-improvement. Blogging will also help you understand more about yourself no matter what niche you are in. Your blogging journey will make you appreciate your good qualities and improve where you might be lacking.
Blogging helps me to be a patient person and to follow my intuition in a way that I’m hopeful that someday my blog will be big and I’m doing this with a knowing that it will happen. I started to be more curious about understanding the technicalities of having a blog.
You want to inspire yourself and other people
I once read it somewhere that the story of how you overcome something will be part of someone else’s survival guide. There are different ways to inspire other people, and blogging is just a broader way of doing this because you will not only reach out to your friends and families but the whole world.
You may be inspired by other blogs before, and you find it amazing, so you want to do the same. After all, each one of us has a unique story and experiences that can help other people. Inspiring others through writing is not limited to self-development blogs but almost every topic even the technical ones.
Express your thoughts
I read somewhere that blogging is once viewed as a way of writing in your diary. But the same thing is that- you can explain and process your thoughts through blogging, especially if you want it to be read by other people too.
Creative outlet
If you love writing, then blogging can be your thing. Having a creative outlet is vital to balance ourselves and to destress from our day to day lives.
Three Misconceptions about Blogging:
Starting a blog can make money fast
For the majority, including me- starting a blog doesn’t necessarily mean that money will flow immediately, especially if you are starting from scratch. You will need to get the hang of everything, not to mention that you need to drive traffic and an audience to make it all possible. But it should not discourage you because if you are consistent in blogging, willing to learn and apply what you learn, then you will harvest the fruit of your blogging.

Blogging is easy
Unless you know how to navigate different blogging platforms, how to use SEO, how to drive traffic or write amazing content from the beginning, then blogging is not easy. When I am first dreaming about having a blog, I thought it is easy- that I need to write, write, write, and that’s it. But after I studied SEO- I learned how my blog posts targets in using keywords that no one is searching. The funny thing is, I’m not discouraged about the things that I don’t know because I believe that everything I need is just in front of me. There are helpful resources out there, online lessons and a great community to help us in our blogging journey.
You will be supported by your family and friends all the time
You need to be tough if you want to live and breathe your blog because not everyone will support you or at least at your beginning stages. They may not understand why you’re doing this, but that doesn’t make them a bad person. You need to remove the expectations of anyone to your blogging; they will not always be supportive and will say annoying things. Still, you need to carry on and make these circumstances as your motivation.
At times, blogging can be a lonely journey, but you have to make sure that you have your back- you can lose anyone but yourself. You can make this work even without their forced support.
Final notes about your reasons for starting a blog
No matter what your reasons are for starting this blogging journey, know that it is valid, and you don’t need other people’s approval. If blogging can make your life easier, happier and more satisfying in the long run, then start now and waste no more time in wishing and thinking.
If you are serious in blogging and want to make it your business, you need a reliable hosting so your contents can be visible and accessed on the internet. Bluehost is offering a one-year free domain name for 1st year with free SSL included. WordPress is easy to install in Bluehost– it can be done with one click! This is true especially to me. Blogging makes me talk to my other personality. When I write my thoughts it’s as if I am talking to myself, validating my feelings, cheering myself up and encourage myself to become better as I talk to my readers. Having blogging as a side hustle has been my lifelong dream and reading your blog inspired me to start my own. Very soon! Keep it up!
