Working on a long-term goal is exciting. Only the thought that you’re doing these things for your future is in itself rewarding. But we know precisely, and we must admit that our dreams or goals will never materialize in front of us without taking actions.
That’s why; we must always stay inspired and committed to the dream life we are building. Since long term goals took some time to happen, it will most certainly require us to exert effort and patience. Figuring things on your own can be bittersweet. Sometimes things work, and sometimes it doesn’t. And when you want something so much, but it seems so far away from you- it hurts us, and we feel a bit defeated.
I’ve been reading Atomic Habits by James Clear, and it says there that the formation of habits includes a reward. It means that we continue to do things if we are rewarded.
I look at myself and how I’m trying to hide away from updating my blog. Feeling ashamed, I realize one of the factors why I’m sabotaging my dream to be a successful blogger. That is, I’ve seen little results from my blogs. It is weird because I know what to do exactly, yet I found myself doing the exact opposite things.
Doing a self-reflection helps me get back on my writing, and it helps me by acknowledging some of my self-imposed limitations. I’m writing this post for us in the same shoes. If like me, you feel like your efforts and commitments are not yet rewarded, read on and be inspired.
Feeling down and defeated? Are you not doing much for your goals? You can do self-reflection to gain some clarity. Read the post here.
To stay inspired, I ask myself why I want it.
I believe that having a reason behind what you’re doing urges us to be more committed and driven. When we are tired of taking actions and want to give up, asking why we want to achieve something can put ourselves back to the feeling we had when we are first planning for this goal.
Visualize yourself living your best life and ask yourself why you want it. Ask yourself how bad do you want to achieve this dream life you are visualizing.
Assess your plan and expectations
Of course, we see how grand our goals and dreams are, and other people may have already achieved them. And sometimes because we see other people living our dreams, we have this thinking that it happened to them overnight.
I remember seeing a picture of an iceberg in social media before. The small part of an iceberg is seen above the water while a bigger part of an iceberg is underwater. According to the picture, the smaller parts above the water represents the success that other people can see. In contrast, the larger part beneath it means much bigger things happening before a person can succeed.
I believe that having an expectation is not bad, but it should be realistic enough.
Or at times, our plans may not be serving us. If we have an unrealistic expectation, we are surely going to have an unrealistic plan as a response. With this flow, we will find ourselves- tired and continuously fighting to fulfil these unrealistic plans.
Is your expectation or plan aligned with your resources, skills and values? If not, it may be the reason you feel like your efforts don’t seem to work out.
Fall in love with the process and celebrate even your small wins
Forget about the outcome! Wait! What?
Yes, you’ve read it right. The thing is, we are so focused on the result that we fail to appreciate the journey. That’s the reason why we feel that we are working toward something without the promise of success.
I love listening to Earl Nightingale’s recording The Greatest Secret because he said there that success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal. I love this definition because it doesn’t say that you’ll need to achieve the results to be truly successful. What’s important is we do things, and it doesn’t even matter how big or small these things are. What matters most is that we work toward it, and we can call ourselves successful in the process.

We should learn how to ignore the outcome or results and build a system of contentment for the small things we can accomplish for this goal. I believe that it is not wrong to have goals, but we should not focus much on the result of achieving them.
Instead, we should learn to love every step of the way towards it. That’s why we should stop being our harsh judge. We should practice self-forgiveness for the things we failed to do. We should allow ourselves to appreciate our efforts, no matter how small it may be. Knowing that these inspired actions are inching us closer and closer to our desired life or events.
Be inspired knowing that you’ll never see the result if you’ll stop now.
When did a quitter win? Never! For some, quitting on their goals, dreams, plans or whatever is easier. But for the bunch that wants it so bad- quitting will never be an option. Remember that a worthy goal may require you to put your heart on the line. Like what I talked about in this blog post about how to deal with fear.
Read this if you are paralyzed with fear.
We see people that achieved incredible things- sure! Other people might think that they are crazy for even dreaming of these things. But they earned it! I have Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos on my mind at this exact moment.
Is quitting better than your actual goals? Is quitting and settling for less worth it than an incredible life waiting for you if you persevere? You know the answer.
Do a self-reflection and seek clarity. This post about self-reflection will guide you.
Final Note to Stay Inspired
Everything is a process, and I can say that it is much the same for anyone who’s working toward any worthy goals or plans. It is rare for anyone to achieve any grand goals overnight magically.
I know that it can be disheartening to work hard and fail to see the results.
Take breaks and unwind if you have to, but don’t ever quit on anything that you know will make your life worth living. Forgive yourself for the things you can’t do at the moment. Improve your skills, be kind to yourself and be consistent with your work.

Stay inspired by being proud of yourself, your progress and your work. Build integrity and consistency, even if it means doing small things day by day.
Don’t rely solely on external motivations. Take actions and find inspiration within yourself, within your dream life.
