Reclaiming your personal power is one of the essential aspects of anyone’s self-improvement journey. Living on your terms can be translated to freedom and happiness. Being a self-sufficient person will allow you to do things out of passion or love instead of doing something because you have no other choice.
Why is self-sufficiency important to take your power back in life?
We have to admit that we cannot completely be on our own. We still need other people to make our lives complete. This blog post is not all about removing worthy relationships and people in your life but simply learning to be more independent. Being a self-sufficient person is a person who viewed him or herself as the only person who can improve their life.
Self-sufficiency is all about putting the responsibility on your shoulders and not expecting other people to make a decision for you or improve your life. Being a self-sufficient person will gain anyone the confidence and the ability to experience true happiness and learn when failure happens.
I mentioned that self-sufficiency equates to freedom. This reason alone is essential to why we should strive to be self-sufficient.
How to be a self-sufficient person
Now that we know the importance of self-sufficiency, it’s about time to understand how we can be self-sufficient successfully.
Make a decision from an important reason
Everything we do in life always starts with a decision. And that decision is backed up by an important reason. A strong reason allows us to stay on the path of what we want from our life, and a strong reason will motivate us to remain committed to it.
Is there any instance in your life when you wished you’d be more capable of doing something with regards to your own life? Let me share why I’m passionately talking about this thing. First, it is because I experienced disappointment in waiting for other people to save my life. I felt weak not to make a decision I want and allow other people to make them for me- all because I believe they are more powerful.
I learned that we are more powerful, and you have to reclaim your personal power. It all starts in deciding for an important reason.
Know your purpose and work on it
Having a solid reason why we want to embrace self-sufficiency is vital to stay on it. But we should also need to tie self-sufficiency in living an intentional and a life with purpose. We cannot deny that understanding and pursuing our purpose can make a lot of difference in our life.
We cannot hope to continue being self-sufficient if we do not love what we are doing in our lives. To understand why purpose is essential, we should understand the concept of ikigai. Ikigai is the sweet spot where you can pursue your purpose, live with meaning and abundance. Find your ikigai using this blog post.
Take responsibility for your finances
Anyone can deny how important it is to manage our finances. But it is one aspect of being a self-sufficient person: to have power over your income and expense. Over-reliance on other people to meet our financial needs can be considered a blessing for others. But for me, giving other people the responsibility to earn for them is not advisable.
What I mean by taking responsibility for your finances is being aware of your sources of income and how you are spending your money. We need to accept that earning money takes so much of our time, and it only fits to find ways to make money work for you and not let it work you out.
Handling your finances start with a good budget. Learn why having a budget is essential for your self-improvement in this blog post.

Love Continuous Learning
Development requires continuing education. If we want to be a self-sufficient person, then we need to adopt the love for learning. Passion for learning will give us confidence that we will have a cushion when what we previously trained or studied became irrelevant in the future.
To develop a love for continuous learning, we should be open to new improvements in our chosen careers. Learning nowadays is available for everybody who is seeking knowledge.
I suggested learning as part of becoming a self-sufficient person because no one can be overly confident enough that your existing qualification on a job or career will be the same in the future. We need to be open to new learnings to ensure that we can continue earning and less worried about the future no matter what happens.
A self-sufficient person genuinely loves themselves and does not expect external validation to feel good about themselves. Self-love is indispensable if a person wants to embrace independence. Giving your personal power to other people because they can provide you with love that you cant give yourself is sad and troublesome.
A person who doesn’t practice self-love literally gives away their powers. They make a decision, not for themselves but to please other people. While it is not harmful to love someone else, a person should see that boundaries are clear when doing things out of self-love.
Self-sufficiency means that what you’re looking for can be found in yourself as it is more stable and predictable than expecting other people to be there for us all the time.
Final thoughts on how to be a self-sufficient person
Independence is a commendable and attractive trait a person should have. Overreliance on other people is dangerous and annoying for others. We need to understand that we must not be afraid to embrace sufficiency as it improves ourselves, self-love, and confidence.
Being a self-sufficient person is not about pride or bragging. It simply means utilizing our innate power to move our life in the right directions, like what we should do.
