How has fear impacted your life lately? Have you been living with fear for such a long time that you believe that it is simply a part of you?
Fear can paralyze us in so many ways. And indeed, living with fear can limit us to achieve our greatest capacity in life. That’s why it is essential to fight your fear and do not be confined to the walls it does to your life.
Fight your fears by reflecting on the following suggestions:
Fight your fear by accepting that you can’t control everything
Believing that I can control and manage everything gives me an immense heartache. Our fears sometimes come from our inability to accept that we can’t expect things to happen the way we want, always.
And yet, we find ourselves fearing death, old age, and growing alone when in fact, these types of fears can’t entirely be manipulated by us. We cannot escape death as it is part of our life. We cannot cheat aging because it is sure to happen, and we cannot force someone to be with us when they don’t want to.
By accepting and putting these kinds of fears behind all our worries, we will realize that we can do much better in life. Do you fear something that you can’t control? Better stop now cause you’re just fighting a losing battle. However, you can focus on things that you have control over and do now in the present.
Overcome fear by taking action
Taking action can do a lot of benefit in our life. We are also taking back our power by deciding that we can do something against our fears. Taking action is like refusing to give in to your fear. It is proof of hope and persistence.
If you fear being poor, you might as well do something today to prepare for your future. Take account of your finances and learn how to grow your money.
If you are afraid of failing because of your current knowledge and abilities, you can gain it instead. Knowledge is everywhere, and we are not confined to what we used to know.
A lot of fear is caused by uncertainty about the future. Suppose you identified that your anxiety is because of the unknown. In that case, you can take advantage by determining the appropriate actions to combat it.
Fight your fear by breaking up with the same expectation of what had happened in the past.
Thinking of dire consequences about the past can ruin us. The consequences in the past bring negative emotion in our present moment, and it influences our decisions. We expect a bad result in our current action, more likely just because we experienced the same thing from our past.

This situation is dangerous because we are feeling defeated before we can even begin. The expectation of bad things because of the past can significantly influence our confidence presently. How would you feel if you want to start a project, but your mind tells you that you do not have to try? And all because your mind tells you that you will suck at it again. It will certainly be a great way to sabotage a ticket to a good life.
What you can do to break up the habit of your expectation is to challenge your beliefs. I have a blog post dedicated to discussing how we can let go of our old self-limiting beliefs. Another thing we can do is to be open to positive thoughts and hope for the future by doing our best currently and consistently. From what I’ve read somewhere, the only way to predict the future is to do your best today.
You don’t need to fight your fears alone.
One mistake we often find ourselves in is the belief that we have to do everything on our own. While being independent is a commendable trait, it should not limit us from asking for someone else’s help. We have important people in our lives that will surely help us in conquering our fears at one point or another.
Asking for someone’s help is not a sign of weakness at all. It will help you fight your fear by asking for other people’s perspectives, especially when facing the same situations. At some point, we don’t need significant input or advice from other people in fighting our fear. Just the mere thought that you are not alone in your journey can help you feel more confident and a little less fearful.
Understand the root causes of your fear
We hear all the time that to cure an illness; we must cure its causes first. Fear may not be an illness but acts materially in the same way by its ability to stop us from functioning our best in taking action or making a decision. Resolving the surface of our fear will only help us temporarily.
Instead, understanding where the fears came from is helpful for us to assess how we will fight them. Understanding the root causes of our fears will help us know how much effort we will be needing. In this stage, we will get clarity if fear’s something we can control or do something.
Most of our fears today is caused about by the pain and mistake we experienced in the past. There’s always a link between the past, our expectations, and us undermining ourselves.
Did you fail at something in the past, and that prevents you from starting something now? In this, your fear is caused by your failure in the past. And because you understand where this fear came from, it’ll be easy for you to convince yourself that you can do something today to improve your future.
Final thoughts to fight your fears
Fear can trick us in so many ways. It can make us believe we are dumb, or we don’t have what it takes to succeed in this life. It is up to you how much do you want your fear to rule your destiny. But one thing is for sure, a life full of fear is not called living.
Now, I also do not discount the possible ways that fear can help us with our life. I believe that fear is not just fear. And that one way or another, it is communicating something. However, if we are easily led by fear to ruin our life, now is the time to do something about it.
